A strictly traditional, rural Cajun Courir de Mardi Gras involving chicken and greased pig chasing. Only fully-costumed men are allowed to participate in the Courir which is a long journey through the countryside of Mermentau Cove and ends with a Fais Do Do and Gumbo at a home on Lafosse Road where the public is invited to enjoy the dancing, music, and food associated with rural Cajun Mardi Gras. $5 entry fee, ages 16 and under get in FREE! $2 beer will be sold.
The Fais Do Do begins at 4pm, with music starting at 5 and lasting throughout the evening. Per tradition, only men, age 15 or older in full, traditional costume are invited to run. The Courir de Mardi Gras de l’Anse (“l’anse” means “cove”) is organized by Cadien Toujours, a non-profit committed to the preservation, advancement and education of the Cajun French culture.
